Hitomi is about as normal as Japanese teenage girls go with a best friend named Yukari, a spot on the high school track team, and a crush on the team's star sprinter(Amano). However, her spirited earnestness and fascination in fortune-telling (especially tarot readings and dowsing) sets her apart.Years ago, her grandmother gave her a set of tarot cards and an unusual tear-shaped pendant which, along with her enigmatic visions, play a crucial role her adventures on Earth as well as on Gaea. That's as much as anyone can see about Hitomi in the first few episodes of the show, but as the adventure progresses, she turns out to be a very complex character, with a sensitive and loving nature. Even though she might be a little confused about her feelings towards certain boys in the show, *cough Allen cough* she is still a very interesting character. Known to the people of Gaea as "the girl from the Mystic Moon", she makes a lasting impression on everyone she meets through her caring character. With the boldness and stubborness specific of every eathian teenager, Hitomi surprises many Gaeans when she speaks boldly and takes freedoms never before took by a girl. In her attempts to help the people she bonds with, Hitomi Kanzaki manages to slap the rightous king of Fanelia, when he makes an ass of himself. *pardon the language, and sorry for the spoiler*. Her voice is magnificently played by Maaya Sakamoto. I find Hitomi to be a very well thought out character, very realistic, which only adds to the beauty of the show. However, it is annoying how she's oblivious to anyone around her except Allen Schezar (but then again, aren't all teenage girls like that? Allen would be considered cute, and he did look like Amano, but still) In the dubbed English series, her voice is played by Kelly Sheridan, who again did a magnificent job. My only complaint is that Hitomi's voice is too sad in the english version, but then again, she does get a lot of visions. Overall, this is a very interesting character, with a lot of different faces. The connections she made with the people of Gaea are veey strong connections, which will not fade out over time. (Hopefully those darn writers will make a second season)
