Medical Resources

If you want to hurt'em or mess with their minds, do it right. I found most of these sites at  Code Red  site. I did most of the picking through for you and it still seems a bit much doesn't it? Some sights are jargon heavy, but are still very handy.

1000 Medical and Nursing Links - This is the links page of the wonderful ‘Weird Nursing Tales’ website. Contains links to every Nursing and Medical site imaginable, including some very obscure. Just incredible.

Active First Aid Online
Complete and up-to-date first aid info - one twist, it's Australian! Even with the odd turn of phrase, it's still useful. Easy to navigate and find what you need, and it's not so technical the layperson will have trouble with it.

The Cascade Hospital - An idea so cool I'm surprised it hasn't been done before! Medical information aimed SPECIFICALLY at fanfiction writers. Easy to understand and well explained. This site is focused for fans of 'The Sentinel', but writers in other fandoms will find it useful, too.

CDC Health Topics A to Z - This page is part of the official web page of the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. Looking for the PERFECT bug to infect someone with? This is the place to find it, along with lots of other health-related information.

Common Simple Emergencies

Drug Checker at drkoop.com - Easy to use drug look-up engine. The language is aimed at the layperson, and practical. Also allows you to search several drugs at once for interactions.

Ed’s Pathology Lectures
Exhaustive! And I mean it. If the medical condition isn’t covered here, than it probably doesn’t exist. Also links to other medical resources, including Medline.

Emedicine Online
Another highly technical site meant for the medical professional. Very, very thorough look at every possible emergency medicine issue.

Emergency Nursing World - Articles and information on a very wide variety of technical subjects having to do with ER and trauma nursing, also humor, essays, and many, many links.

Emergency War Surgery - Second United States Revision of The

Emergency War Surgery NATO Handbook

Inner Learning Online - Very cool interactive human anatomy site - lots of pictures and explanations. Helpful for understanding how injuries work!

LA County Coroners Official Website - Not exactly a medical website, it's here because it seemed the best place to put it. Info on Coroners Office procedures and more for those patients that don't make it. Check out the gift shop - macabre but fascinating presents for the strange people in your life.

Los Angeles County and University of Southern California Trauma, Surgery, and Critical Care Page - The 'Trauma Protocols' section is especially interesting and useful!

Medical Abbreviations and Acronyms for MTs - Confused by the 'alphabet soup' of doctor-speak? This site lists a number of good links to sites with definitions. Another very useful site.

Medical Links for MTs - Very good links listing site - lots of very helpful stuff. Highly recommended!

medspeak - the language of ER

MedStudents Website - Meant as an informational site for medical students. Fascinating if you already have a medical background and understand the terminology.  Articles and clinical examples from many specialties. Language tends to be VERY technical! In both Spanish and English versions. (it’s apparently based at a Brazilian medical school)

Merck Publications
On-line home of The Merck Manual of Diagnostics and Therapy - the complete 17th edition is now on line, a very valuable medical resource! Also home to The Merck Manual Home Edition (for people who are not medical professionals), and The Merck Manual of Geriatrics.

Nurse's PDR Drug Database - Drug info aimed at the professional - technical information about dosages, available forms, drug chemistry, side effects, more. There is a search feature as well as an A-to-Z listing.

On-line Medical Dictionary - Especially helpful when using some of the sites in the next section - good for looking up medical terms.
