Missing Scene Challenge 10

CHOICE 1: THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL

This ep has some good slashy moments, particularly between Face and Murdock, but they're there for other pairings, too.  This is the episode where Rick James hires the team to help his friend C.J. Mack who has been serving time in prison for manslaughter.  They all remember his music from when they were in Vietnam.  Face says he wore out three copies of the album Blood Simple over there, and Murdock calls the album the common soldier's anthem.

There are some interesting tidbits you might work into a story.  For example, in the beginning when they're in the van, Face and Murdock are in opposite seats from their usual arrangement.  Not necessarily a slashy point, but interesting.

Scenario 1: Face asks C.J.'s lawyer Devin Paige to come to the house where he's housesitting.  The first thing we see of the house is the back yard and pool, and it's obviously a very nice place.  A young lady is serving the others drinks while they wait.  When Face thanks her, she calls him Butch.  The others repeat this with varying degrees of amusement or disbelief.   Is this slashy?  Does it mean anything at all?

Scenario 2: Partway through the show we see Face and Murdock at the pool.  The others are gone, and Devin arrives in a panic to tell them C.J.'s been put back in jail.  Just before she gets there, we see Face sitting by the pool looking at a book on Picasso, and Murdock floating on a rubber raft in the pool.  This is a nice little moment, and one you could investigate in a missing scene.  What have they been doing while the others are gone?  Why is only one of them in the pool?  Why is Murdock floating around in nothing but swim trunks on what is presumably a warm day while Face sits next to the pool fully clothed and wearing a sweater?  Is this evidence of some recent illness Face has had?  Is it the aftermath of some fight they've had that neither of them wants to talk to the other just then?  Or are they simply relaxing and trying to recharge their batteries the way they must all eventually have to do? What was happening before we see them?  This scene doesn’t necessarily even have to be an F/M pairing…they could each have been thinking or talking about one of the others.  Or it could be an F/M pairing.  You might wish to focus your efforts on an examination of the way the team tries to find time to take care of itself…to renew its own energy as a unit and as individuals. (This missing scene idea was suggested by someone quite awhile ago during an IM chat to generate missing scenes.  I can't remember whose idea it was, but whoever you are, feel free to identify yourself.  Thanks for the idea, too!)

And did you notice those cute red-and-white striped trunks Murdock is wearing or the fact that his robe is also red and white?   Don't forget the way they both pull guns on Devin when she shows up, too.  They're relaxing but not unprepared.  Murdock utters these very interesting words to Face after Devin has explained the problem: "If you're thinkin' what I'm thinkin', my heart belongs to you, daddy."

Scenario 3: And what the heck is that weird character Face assumes when he's working with Hannibal to find the tapes in the shop?  I thought that was one of the weirder personas I've ever seen him use.  He acted like he'd been into the laughing gas or something.  Is there something going on between him and Hannibal?  Is there some reason he's acting the way he is besides the need to convince the guard to focus his attention elsewhere? What happens between Face and Hannibal while they're being held in the workshop waiting for Murdock and BA to be brought in?

CHOICE 2: LEASE WITH AN OPTION TO DIE

This ep is rife with slashy and sentimental bits that would make a nice relationship story, I think, and with possibilities for various pairings.

If you remember, some bad guys want to drive the tenants out of BA's mom's building so they can raze it and add the property to a new development.  In the beginning, they break BA's mom's arm, and she calls the team for help.  Due to a small deception on BA's part, she believes BA is the head of the team.

Scenario 1: In his haste to get to Chicago, BA agrees to fly.  The others accommodate him.  When they get on the plane and Murdock gets ready for take-off, Face and Hannibal are in the back watching BA grow more and more anxious.  At last Hannibal suggests he needs some oxygen, at which point they put him to sleep.  I thought their concern was sweet, though, and I can imagine looking at this bit from the pov of BA's lover or even within a Hannibal/Face relationship while they take care of BA.

BA's mom calls him Scooter.  Try working *that* into a slash story!

Scenario 2: In this ep we see a lot of Hannibal in drag looking and sounding fairly convincing as an elderly lady (except for those hairy wrists you can see above the gloves).  There's an awful lot of mother/son clinging going on between him and Murdock.  I'm sure there's tons of slashy subtext there.  If those two are a couple, what are they thinking about doing this mother/son thing?

Scenario 3: Toward the end of the ep they find a bomb downstairs in the basement and BA has less than a minute to decide which wire to cut.  While Hannibal hovers near BA (protectively, perhaps?) Face pushes Murdock back toward the door and stands next to him, shoulders touching  (not that being that far back is going to save either of them, but at least they'd go together).

Here's the dialogue for that bit, in case you need it:

When BA cuts the correct wire (as we all know he will) Face says, "Could you take a little longer next time, BA?  That way I could die of a heart attack and not worry about being blown to smithereens." Next to him Murdock is pressing his left hand to his left temple as if he has a headache and is looking a little dazed.

BA testily replies, "Next time you pick the right one."

Face laughs a bit and says, "No, thanks."  Next to him Murdock is pressing his left hand to his left temple as if he has a headache and is looking a little dazed.

 Hannibal says, "Nice, BA."

Scenario 4: Here's another idea.  At the end of the episode while they're all eating Christmas dinner (even though it's summer) Murdock is sitting next to BA and irritating him, and BA's mother continues to admonish BA about his behavior.  She tells Murdock that she'd like to adopt him and notes how close he and BA are.  Of course, that whole exchange ends with Murdock fleeing the table with BA right behind him, his hand clutching the back of Murdock's jacket.  Do Mama Baracus's comments strike a little too close to home there?  Are they running from the table so they can confer about whether she has them figured out?  Or is this just the regular friction between BA and Murdock?  What happens between them after they leave the table?  What happens at the table after they leave?  Face and Hannibal are still there, along with the Mama's neighbor, Karen (sitting next to Face).  This gives Mama a chance to either grill the others or just get to know them better.  Maybe she's doing a little matchmaking between Face and Karen, not knowing that Face and Hannibal are already a couple?  Or Face and BA?  Or Face and Murdock?

These are both fun eps to work with.  Feel free to write as many scenes as you want from either or both.

Let me know if you have any questions about the episodes or the story starters.  As always, feel free to interpret this all your own way.  Have a good time!

Elizabeth
