The fifth-generation Corvette, in its third model year, added a fixed-roof hardtop to the lineup that already consisted of coupe and convertible body styles.
The fixed-roof Corvette was the first offered since the legendary second-generation Sting Rays of 1963-1967.
The new hardtop Corvette featured body lines unique to that model and they subtly set it apart from the coupe and convertible.
Its standard equipment included the six-speed manual transmission (an automatic transmission was not available), limited-slip rear axle with 3.42:1 ratio and Z51 suspension with stiff springs, large stabilizer bars and large mono-tube shock absorbers.
The Z51 suspension was also optional on coupes and convertibles.
All 1999 Corvettes were powered by the 345-hp 5.7-liter LS1 V-8.
The coupe and convertible used the 4L60-E electronically-controlled four-speed automatic overdrive transmission, with the six-speed manual unit optional.
New optional features for 1999 Corvette coupe and convertible models included a Heads-Up Display (HUD) system which projected key instrumentation readouts onto the windshield to allow drivers to view vehicle vitals without taking their eyes oft the road; Twilight Sentinel, with delayed shutoff of
headlamps, allowed for exterior illumination after the ignition was turned off; and they also featured a power telescoping steering column that allowed drivers to more accurately tailor the position of the steermg wheel to their specific needs.
Optional again on all 1999 Corvettes was the Active-Handling System (AHS).
AHS operated in harmony with the anti-lock braking and traction-control systems to selectively apply any of the four brakes in an effort to help the driver counteract and diffuse dangerous handling characteristics such as oversteer and understeer
The Corvette's standard equipment list included next-generation dual airbags; air conditioning; leather seating; power door locks and windows; a Passkey II theft-deterrent system; electronic speed control; an electronic Driver Information Center; and Remote Function Actuation with Remote Keyless Entry.
Colors for 1999 CS Corvette coupes and convertibles were: Arctic White; Light Pewter Metallic; Sebring Silver Metallic; Nassau Blue Metallic; Navy Blue Metallic; Black; Torch Red; and Magnetic Red II Clearcoat.
The fixed-roof hardtop came only in five colors: Artic White; Light Pewter Metallic; Nassau Blue; Black; and Torch Red.
Leather interiors were standard and came in Black; Light Oak; Light Gray; and Red.
Convertible tops were available in White, Black, and Light Oak.
I.D. NUMBERS
