Police received a number of reports of a bright flash or explosion in the skies over Perth last night [Oct 16].

Sightings were reported at about 10.15pm from Falcon, Kings Park, Ascot and Kallaroo. Some callers reported it as a flare sighting.

The flash was spotted by the Perth Airport tower which said it came from a north-eastern direction.

Police said the flash was probably caused by an object entering the earth's atmosphere.
