~Hospital Day Arrives~

**Monday 15-4-2002**

Arriving at Hospital at 8am, a delay of 45 minutes* awaiting for bed to be ready
Call came that bed was ready my care-giver unpacked my case and udressed me
Nurse then came and prepared me for theatre it seemed forever before I was taken down
I then had to have a long drawn out conversation with Anaesthetic Surgeon who was inserting line
Great they found a vein they could use in my arm , this procedure took place not without it
*hurting heaps*,it seemed never ending*although everything seemed to go according to plan,so next
they took Xray's Great no problem's,showing no penetration of the vein
I was then returned to the ward where a waiting game began I ask why was there a hold up I was informed
that a special prostaglandin formulation solution was being made up before they could start so they started
to flush the line in preperation for the 72 hour I V drip to take place It was about to be started,So much
seemed to be going on around me, I was needed to be taken back to the theatre oh no what's going on
another Xray was needed,I was rushed on to a trolley and off they took me another Xray, yes it felt like a nigthmare
was happening how I dread those lines, that positive attitude of mine was going down hill fast believe me

Yes all ok I made it back to begin again **this was a okay ** I felt a lot better, having it in my arm not my juglar as before **this enabled me to get out of bed what luck** no more 72 hours flat on my back
The 72 hours went by with only one minor hitch **a back flow which with good care it was well taken care of

***Thrusday 18th-4-2002***

***Day for my Amputations***

Yes I was nervous but I kept telling my self all would be okay I Prayed a lot**never gave it a thought that
the day had gone by it was 5.30 PM when they took me to the theatre,I realised I hadn't eaten from the night before
A new Anaesthetic Specialist he told me that the Specialist who inserted the line was off duty this didn't surprise me
He then gave me a lecture on how six staff members had stayed to aid them for my operation as I was left for last one that day
So he seemed to be the chief in charge, the way he was speaking to the Plastic surgeon and other staff members
I would say it took nearly an hour after my arrival at the theatre that all was sorted He came to me and informed me
That I would have TWO Plastic Surgeons one for each arm **poking and prodding me came to a solution that a tourniquet
would be used as of the risk factor being my head didn't have much movement backwards, this being the case I could choke

The thought run through my mind *Why have they left the line in as I was under the impression,The line still being in my arm
would be how I was going to go off to dream land not so,I felt this sting in my right hand then in my left hand, then another in my foot
Numbness in my hands now *still only light headed not a sleep as I thought *then this tightness in both arms a tourniquet*
this was something strange to me*The buzz of voice's around me *all I could do was please take those off my arms*I was told to hold on for
awhile * I didn't look up as I feared I had lifted the roof *these Surgeons where sure in a hurry,OH !! relief left arm free*
still I was saying please take the other one off ,when I heard the count down of stitches going in, hold on little more*finished relieved
****Then the lights went out don't remember much more after that not sure for how long, woke up tubes running here, there, wherever*
All seemed Okay With my Grandson snuggled in beside me, and my Grand-daughter snuggled into my feet, the Happiest wake up call I have ever had**
Three weeks went by rather quick all seemed to go well * only few mishaps *on 4th day after OP.line of "20 inches"was taken out showed sign's of infection
Food became a no-no with me I couldn't stand the smell **this had began soon after my arrival on my admittance to hospital*The only one that Knew this was my Twin** I could tell without looking at the clock my Twin would walk through that door she NEVER missed one day of being with me she tried to encourage me to eat,she took over feeding me
bringing lots of fruit and nice soft food you could say she hand fed me like a Baby she sure was making a huge effort to get me well,Typical me I'll be Okay sure

********************Time for Home *********************

The mention of Rehabilatation was suggested, no not me ! smarty been through amputations many times! forgetting this time was both hands out of action
So I was Home,Four day's later "as promised"I went to a Grand Ma's picnic at**Timmy and Emily**School I could not break my promise to be with them*On There Special day*
I couldn't let my Darling Grand-Chidren down now could I, I was still wearing a splint and bandages on both hands,My carer drove me that one and a half hour drive,
A few weeks went by and bandages came off ,I still used the splints at night as I was inclined to throw my arms about, this of course was a precaution so not to knock my hands
As time went by I felt myself getting very frustrated with, fingers that were not there, nerve endings were creating a great deal of pain ,and the phantom fingers, I could and did not know these would play havoc with me !!
I tossed and turned all night long as well as tears flowed like buckets of water ***Finally I decided when my next visit arrived to see my specialist at the Hospital, I broke down and told him
With that things moved rather fast within five days I was admitted to the "MECU" Rehab*Hospital This was the best thing that happened to me I spent three weeks undergoing therapist treatment*** Magic was the Key Word****
My confidence was restored in such a short stay **I then had about another four weeks full on at home with Occupational,Physiotherapy**This help me restore my confidence after over two years I'm on the way to being able to
write again **
not without pain that would be a silly remark to make and I do not want to be misleading for people who have had all there fingers removed ,Oh sorry I still have short stumps and also a full thumb on my right hand
*************My Motto Still Is Never ever Quit !!*************
never let the Pain over come you, Laugh have fun with your friends, I get more help from smiling, if people only look at my limbless digit's
***OK*You may wonder, how did I type this **I have a talk-typer**I did this as a web-page I was unable to manipulate my talk typing to adjust
So I have typed this with "YES MY Thumb" I have a velcro band with a slot which I use for eating ,what I did was strap it to my left hand and inserted a pencil in the slot to,use my shift key,When I needed to make my caps and puntuations
