Half a century ago, this region was composed of empty, barren but magnificent moorland. Between the 1940’s and 1950’s the area was transformed by the energies of one man into a leisure and retirement resort, where thick forest, landscaped golf course, and delightful man-made tarns counterpose the undulating downs. That man was Colonel McIlwaine. Photos around the area, and looking down on to the Hotel and Golf course. It was an extremely dull day when I took the photos, so will have to get more on the next trip !
